It's really snuck up on me! I realized I still needed to get Reagan her Yellow Fever shot and meds. I always recommend my team members go to Walgreens for their yellow fever shot, because it is much less expensive than a Dr visit and the one near my house does it. But Jonathan (who is going on the trip as well) told me when he went to get his daughters, they told him she needed a prescription. So I called Walgreens to find out procedure, and I was told, "if she is under 18, she just needs an RX and you can bring it in and we can give it right then" I was like great! I'll do that, and then yesterday Mattison happened to get Strep Throat (a whole other blog post about that Dr visit!! Let's just say I am so glad we brought our own trash can...) so while we were at the Dr getting her tested for strep and treated, I talked to her about Reagan and got all the necessary stuff needed, including a prescription for her Yellow Fever Shot.
I then took Matti's meds to be filled, and while at my local Walgreens drive thru, I asked again to be sure, do I just need to bring this RX with my daughter who is 10 to get her Yellow Fever shot, "Yes ma'am, they will give it right then" Ok cool.
Reagan gets off of school, and I swoop her away to go get this...much dreaded shot:( She knows she needs it to go, and agreed in the very beginning that she was willing to do this to go. But that doesn't mean when it finally comes down to it that a 10 year old with an insane fear of shots will be all hunky dory about it! Poor thing, the tears started to well up in her little eyes, but she got in the car without kicking and screaming...so that was a win! We prayed on the way there for strength and comfort and for a heart of sacrifice, and she seemed to be better when we got there. Not exactly completely ok...but better.
Waiting to get her shot, so we thought... |
Well we get Matti's RX's and then I show them Reagan's RX and she sends me over to another window. We wait for probably 10 minutes at least because of someone in front of us. Then we are finally up to the window, and I hand her the RX and she goes "oh.....ummm I don't think we can do this for a 10 year old, let me check" You can imagine my complete shock!! I did everything I was supposed to, I got her RX, I checked not once but TWICE with whom I thought was the appropriate one to ask! Then the Pharmacist comes up and says "I'm so sorry but no pharmacy can administer this vaccination to anyone under 18, you will have to go to your Dr to get this"
At this point I had a mild panic attack!!
World Health Organization states on their website that you must have gotten the shot 10 days prior to leaving....We were 16 days out!! EEEKKK!! And what if they have to order it...
So I immediately called my Dr's office whom I know has these on hand, hoping that there isn't a different dose that has to be ordered specifically for children.
But here comes the cool part!! (Seriously, why do we ever worry!!! God has our back every step of the way...FAITH people FAITH!!! **that was more for me than you!!!)
On Tuesday, I met with my sweet friend Jessica. A few days prior she told me she had a friend interested in the Summer trip to Uganda. I told her the info she would need to know etc.
Then when we met, she brought me a packet. Her friend worked for my Dr office, one of the travel medicine Dr's here in town. She had put together a packet of prices and contact info for me.
So when all this happened with Walgreens, I shamelessly used her contact info to see if I could get Reagan in quickly!! Otherwise, sometimes they take a while to get back to you!
And on top of that I asked if I could meet with Dr. Massoud to talk about a working partnership for teams/interns!! This is very exciting!!
Well she immediately got back to me, like within 2 minutes!! She said she would see if she could get Reagan in asap, and would set up a time for Dr. Massoud and myself to talk, she said he would be absolutely willing to do this!!
So really I feel like the situation was meant to be!! Had I not gotten frustrated, or procrastinated, I would never have just contacted her out of the blue, and the Lord really just placed it on my heart at that moment to ask those questions. He does work in mysterious ways, and I LOVE seeing it in action!!
Needless to say, Yellow Fever Shot...Take 2 will be coming shortly!! We have an appointment at noon today!!
Prayers please!! Again, she knows she needs it, but it doesn't make it any easier!!
